SALARY: $21.64 – $24.04/hour; DOQ/Full-time/Non-Exempt

Position Summary:
The Minneapolis American Indian Center has a variety of conference, meeting, and event spaces that are available for individuals, organizations, and businesses to rent. The Events Coordinator is primarily responsible for booking and supporting events held at the Minneapolis American Indian Center. The Events Coordinator manages the building calendar and books events and space rentals requested by staff and external partners. The Events Coordinator also manages event catering requests for Gatherings Café, a full-service Indigenous restaurant located within the center. The position works closely with the center’s Operations Manager, Gatherings Café Manager and Executive Chef, and the Finance Team. The position reports to the center’s Operations Manager.
Position Responsibilities:
- Respond to staff and external partner space rental inquiries, setting up bookings when applicable, and managing logistics for events.
- Manages contracts, deposits, and payments for space rentals. Ensures the calendar is updated; tracks payments and bookings; and refunds deposits after an event. Payments are made and stored in Stripe.
- Gathers information on catering requests for events and collaborates with Gatherings Café Manager and Executive Chef to manage and fulfill food and beverage requests. Serves as a point of contact between the café team and partners.
- Serves as the connection point for people hosting an event at the Minneapolis American Indian Center: answers questions, manages payments and processing, and provides technical and space support during an event if necessary.
- Helps partners set up for an event. This includes showing partners a space and connecting them to the space’s technology, including microphones, presentation screens, etc. May include assisting with furniture set up which would require mid to heavy lifting.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners and stakeholders who book spaces at the center. This includes tabling at events and collaborating with the Communications Coordinator to promote the program.
- Evaluate space rental program and adjust as needed.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Great customer service and people skills; Must be able to support partners from business, nonprofit, government, and community organizations with their space rental bookings and inquiries.
- Strong organizational skills: able to schedule events and manage a complex calendar.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Microsoft Outlook.
- Experience working with the Native community.
- Experience processing and managing payments, preferably using software such as Stripe.
Other Important Information:
- This position is full-time, and the schedule may vary depending on the booked events. The position is typically Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. but will need to provide support for evening and weekend events as needed.
