JOB OVERVIEW

The Tribal Liaison program focuses on increasing tribal participation and promoting family preservation, reunification, and cultural connections. This role provides services to out-of-state tribes and is authorized to act on behalf of tribes in court. It gathers information from all court parties and provides it to the tribe so they can make informed decisions. Click HERE to learn more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess the legal and social service needs of the clients
  • Attend Child in Need of Protective Services (CHIPS) hearings in District Court, Juvenile Division of Counties located outside of Hennepin County, seven county metro area, and greater Minnesota
  • Gather information and communicate clearly between the Tribes, County Social Services & Courts in regard to the current case facts involving tribal members involved in the CHIPS court proceedings and Child Protection agency
  • Refer clients to culturally appropriate social, educational, employment and other services, as needed.
    Have strong case management skills and be able to provide some case management when necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain and keep timely records, and correspondence with tribes, all court notification, and all county social service contact(s) case information
  • Maintain statistical data and provide quarterly reports to Tribal Liaison Supervisor
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and participate in other assigned meetings and community events as it pertains to ICWA
  • Various duties as assigned by Tribal Liaison Supervisor and/or Program Director

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or multiple years of social service experience
  • Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act, Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act, and other related legislation
  • Excellent communication, written, and case management skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Knowledge of the Native American community and its needs
  • Knowledge of the Data Privacy Policies for social services agencies

REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete and pass criminal records and driving record check
  • Reliable transportation to court and client meetings
  • Maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license and current auto insurance
  • No drug, alcohol, or substance abuse related problems
  • Schedule: Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
