Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Boys & Girls Club of the Minneapolis American Indian Center provides American Indian youth with culturally relevant opportunities that foster their holistic development and personal empowerment, with an emphasis on reaching their full potential and pursuing their dreams. The Youth Activities Assistant helps provide direct services to youth through the implementation of cultural, academic, recreational, and health related activities. Activities will focus on skills development in communication, academics, problem-solving, leadership, community-engagement, as well as culture and health/wellness. This roll will also assist with community outreach programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the planning, facilitation, and evaluation of groups and activities for youth within existing program formats.
  • Lead small and large youth activity groups focused on enrichment activities.
  • Provide a positive experience for youth within the program and during sponsored field trips.
  • Ability to transport youth to and from activities in the MAIC Boys & Girls Club vehicle.
  • Function as part of the team, attending planning meetings, and assisting in events.
  • Work as a member of a team to research and plan activities to carry out the program’s goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and efficiency of program area.
  • Assists in community outreach for recruitment and program resources.
  • Assist in the supervision and development of volunteers.
  • Participate in orientation/training to gain the understanding to carry out program goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with children and staff.
  • Participate in MAIC staff meetings and training events.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience engaging American Indian youth and/or families in an out-of-school time setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of the Minneapolis American Indian community, cultural values, and cultural practices is preferred
  • Great interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Should be a self-starter; demonstrate an ability to initiate and complete tasks
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and able to operate a company owned vehicle

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This is an onsite role and includes driving for field trips and transporting youth to/from the Club.
  • Typical schedule 20 – 25 hours per week, Mon – Fri, with a combination of daytime and evening hours, and occasional weekends. Schedule varies from summer to schoolyear.
